Preparing for Spring

This week marks the mid-way point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. In the pagan tradition, it is honoured by the holiday of Imbolc, which means “in the belly" in Old Irish, making reference to pregnant ewes.
Perhaps it's a time to reflect on any intentions we set at the start of the year, and what we might like to give life to as Spring emerges, and a time for us to shake off the winter and prepare for the new season, just as nature begins to wake up.
This mid-way point comes at an apt time for me, when I've felt this particularly cold spell making me want to hibernate recently, but the new semester has begun today and I'm needing to get back into a rhythm of working and attending classes. Sometimes we need something to shift our mindset and I find that the cycle of the seasons helps with this.
Did you know that February comes from Februare, meaning “to purify” in Latin?
I’m thinking about clearing up my home and putting up pictures to have a change of décor. Spring cleaning takes a while and it seems like the right time to start this so that when Spring fully arrives, there will be less to do.
I like to spiritually clean my space with palo santo, as well as do self-purification with meditation, candles, and a nice bath.
Maybe you’d like to do something similar this week?
It could be as simple as displaying flowers, lighting a candle,
or cleaning one small part of a room.
May we welcome back the warmth that melts away the frosty days we've had.
Blessed be!
